Pretty quiet here. Not much of a forum if no stories shared ,
So here's one.
Got caught short this year and had to scramble a bit for a hunt. Couldn't secure where I wanted to be so had to settle for as close as I can. Figured a field was better than no field. The plan was simple, Hope to lure in something after the initial shoot 'em up. Cool morning but no wind to put life in the decoys I knew would have a tough time on spooked. Morning broke and a lot of birds in the air. Could here some good shooting going on in the stubble field I wanted. Out of the scramble was able to call in a pair than a single. Packed it in by 10 as the birds quit flying by then,

I went north for the first 3 days of the hunt to stay with a buddy, got back last night. We got 19 on opener, we thought we had 20 so started packing up at 8:10. CO drove out to us and made his check and counted the birds. We only had 19, guess it better to count high then low. Friday was a bit tougher, we only got 10. Saturday was even worse only got 4. Lots of hunters out and lots of shooting on the opener. Still not bad for 3 days of hunting. Last year we got 34, but hunted 4 days.

Having a decent earlier season. Haven't been doing a ton of shooting, but the apprentice has. I must say hes a great shot and handles a 12 guage very well for only being 13. Proud dad here.

Way to go, can't beat hunting with your kids, mine aren't young any more but I still enjoy having them come along once and awhile.

Looks like you have quite the setup there. Must spend a lot of time chasing them.

Turn that frown upside down.
Happiness should be sunrise over a decoy spread. If its not then might be in it for the wrong reasons.
Looks like a great outing to me.
Think I made the wrong call listening to the weather forecast.

It was a great day to be out . My first this season actually . Lots of geese flying but all seem to be on a mission to the promised land. The mallards on the other hand.... wish it was sept 28th

Was a foggy one this morning but the rain held out till 1030

That's the problem hunting water at sunrise they are on the way out. After their morning feed they'll head back to water that's when you stand a better chance of intercepting them.

I'd agree, geese will come back to water probably after 9. be good to find where they are spending the night on the water. Wait till they leave then go and set up there wait for them to come back. But this will wreck the roost if it a pond. My buddy that I was hunting with last week got out 1 more time and got 8 more. Went to a second time and got a flat on the way so never made it. Was a good early season.
