When you guys referring to good or bad towing mileage it would be great if you add your actual mileage when towing a boat because everyone's perception is different.

On my 2014 4Runner SR5 with V6 (4 litre) engine the gas mileage when towing a boat (about 3500 lb) on highway at 110 km/h speed is about 15 litre/100 km, which although is not the best but I believe on par with most trucks.

Not relevant to the OPs request per say but in response to your query.

I have a one-ton diesel but it is single rear wheel not dually (truck weighs 9000 lbs with my tools on board). With the single rear wheels it is like a 3/4 ton with 15-20% more towing capacity and payload.

Unloaded on the highway with cruise set at 106 it gets 10 to 10.5 L/100

Move the cruise up to 120 and that drops to 11.5 to 12 L/100

In town it gets about 13 L/100

Towing a 6,000 lb trailer it gets 15 to 15.5 L/100 @106

Towing a 14,000 lb trailer it gets 18 to 18.5 @106

Towing a double enclosed snowmobile trailer with 2 sleds (about 2500 lbs) it does the same as the 6000 lb trailer. I think the wide boxy design on the sled trailer just pushes too much air.

My 2021 F-150 3.5 Eco gets about 10-14L/100KM highway as well.

When towing my 5500 lbs boat and trailer, it gets 24L/100km.. oof.

Oof is right...eco or boost...not both...lol
I have a RAM 3.6L 8 speed...driving the speed limit i get below 10L/100km...towing my 5000lb+ boat its up to 18L/100km....305hp not bad for a v6

The only lacking part is the torque, the EcoD has more than twice of the 3.6 Pentastar.

Yea i agree the torque is a bit low at 270ish ft/lbs but i only notice it with my boat...two sleds or atvs is no problem at all...if towing 5000 plus a few times a week i would recomend the hemi or tow gears for the v6 but with lower gears you loose fuel mileage even when empty....i drive about 40k km a year so i went for fuel mileage and just suck it up when towing my boat a dozen time a year.

I ve had a 2008 v8 limited for 10 years, and made 540 clicks on it. The engine is great as was said before but the calipers were going several times and in the previous generation 4runner you had to replace the whole caliper, there waa no means to release a stuck pin like in the new one. The new generation has modern calipers but no v8, no air ride rear suspension, no power tailgate, not even a compartment to keep you gum. Its still nice but yhey trimmed it a lot, thought is way cheaper too. If I could buy tgat 2008 new now I would again;)

If you decide on a truck, I highly recommend Thor Motors in Orillia if you go with Ford. I've bought two trucks from them now. Ask for John.

Trust me, this guy is awesome and won't jerk you around. Mention Ryan with the King Ranch I've been to all the Ford dealerships around the area, and Thor is consistently the best and with no BS games.

Trucks are cheaper in the city...dont buy based on brand...they all have lemons...buy something you like to drive...i was a chevy guy but quality is not there any more...ram was cheaper and felt better to drive...ford still makes the bullit proof 5L if you want v8...but its up to you want to spend your money on...VW makes a great SUV and will tow as much as a full sized truck...to each there own.
