I was out on Sunday on Sturgeon lake and heard some squealing coming from the shore every few minutes but couldn't tell from where. I managed to hook a smallie that jumped a few times before he got off and the squealing was non stop. I'm pretty sure it was a Peregrine Falcon sitting up in a tree along the shore. Did anyone else have a sighting? It was my first time seeing one. I spent most of the day trolling for muskies but didn't get any hits or follows. I saw a few other boats around but only saw one smallie caught. Hope to get out again a few more times.

Hi There
Are you sure it wasn't an Osprey that you saw and heard. I have seen a lot of them in the trees and flying over the lake looking for fish?

was it by the massive renovated mansion with the big boat house? I actually think most of the big birds on sturgeon are Ospreys but I am sure their might be falcons too

I'm pretty sure it had more of a checkered chest, the osprey images I looked up seem to be mostly white. I hope to get a better look next time.

No peregrines on Sturgeon. There are plenty of ospreys, but, I think what you may have seen either a sharp shinned hawk or a cooper's hawk. Both species have checkered breasts and they do nest around the lake. I have seen their young flying while at some of the boat launches around the southern shore.

All that said, it is migration season and it really could have been anything.
