Even tho the weather shows some nice days this week Iíd say Friday would be a no. Even if the ice mass is gone there will still be plenty of unseen floating ice pieces that wonít do your boat any favours unless itís steel hulled. Tell you what if you can wait putting off a decision till mid week Iíll get you an update....

Thanks, I would appreciate that woodenstiks. I think we might risk it and give it a try this weekend. It's just too hard to reschedule all our shipments and we are all available this weekend.

Was talking to a buddy of mine who lives in the West Arm last night. He figures ice will be off likely Wednesday. I plan on heading to camp on Saturday. Yahoo..........

I'm thinking of risking it and trying to go up there this weekend too. Please let me know if you buddy gets back to you with ice reports this week. I wish I had an old cedar strip boat. Those things can handle any weather and would make a great ice breaker (just in case).

I'm going to pass on the cedar strip.......but I may consider hiring an escort to travel ahead to break up the ice.

Todays satellite image isn't the clearest but it does appear that the west arm is thawing slowly.

I didn't know escorts did that sort of thing

I spoke to a guy up there today that is fairly optimistic about the Warren Bay area being open (or open enough) by Friday. He says the bay on the eastern side of sucker creek is pretty must entirely open.

If I can find a big enough ice chunk to use as a barge I might be able to save a few trips to the island.

I've been fishing Nipissing for the last 30 years......I've spent a lot of time on the bow of the boat watching out for rocks, this will be my first time watching out for icebergs.

These were taken this aft from the west arm narrows NNW and NW. Looks pretty good the wind and sun did a number on the bay ice the last few days changing it from white to dull grey and thin. Iif you are putting in at Sucker Creek as of today you will still need to break ice but the forecast is calling for rain and NW wind tomorrow the bay may be free by Friday . Will be touch and go for sure. But hey half the fun is getting there right? Just keep an eye out for ice chunks.....

NNW - look closely to see the ice line as the ice contrast isn't that good once I resized the pics

What a big difference from a couple of days ago.. Wow.. Makes me feel all tingley inside..
I'm heading to Martin River shortly after the opener and as of four days ago our friends still had lots of ice up there but the melt has started..
Good luck everyone..

Was at camp on the West Arrm Sat and Sun. You are good to go, it is wide open and beautiful. The Wife and I hated to come back home.
