Late report but worth a look.... I was float fishing opener last week with the masses and the guys chucking lures start hitting Musky? First was a 15lbs, then one over 20, then one around 30? All landed and released carefully.

Then this young angler with a 5ft ultra light rod and reel hooks into a monster Musky with a 2inch Cleo.....almost an hour later and perfectly hooked in the side lip with all trebles embedded in it he lands the beast...quick pic and measured at 55 inches then carefully released..... the beast swims back into the deep pool to eat more suckers then trout I hope.....,probably close to 50lbs.

Then the guy says "that was my first Musky ever" we laughed and said don't get your hopes up on the next one

The picture doesn't give an accurate representation of how big it really is.

Hope the pic attaches

Thatís a beast to catch on an ultralight. Here I am thinking 4 lb bass put up a fight on them! Sounds like an awesome day!

Great report. What a monster of a fish! That will be a personal best that may stand for many, many years -- probably never to be repeated on ultra light tackle.

If it was legal could be a record on light tackle

Must have had a very good reel, or wore that one out. that rod would have done NOTHING to help in the fight. Huge Beautiful spotted muskie. Must be coming in to start staging the spawn, probably either pre-spawn feeding or trying to protect its spawning grounds. my guess is they are coming in after the trout or suckers.
