The lake level is up about 750mm (29.5") in a week and is still climbing fast. A little more rain in the forecast for tomorrow too. I hope the rise starts slowing down soon.

I am certainly concerned about this as well Neil.
Looks like a barrel on the dock year again.
A friend sent me a picture of Hunters Bay this morning. Looks like it will be open in the next day or two.

this has definitely had me worried this year, there is a lot of flooding in Ontario, seems every year things get more extreme, from forest fires last year to flooding this year, good grief! always seems to be something

Water level pretty much at average high mark in West Bay as of this morning.A week with no rain would be good.

Photo from our dock at Deep Water Bay on the south shore across to North Bay on the north shore.
A few breaks starting to form in the main lake ice sheet. Water temps off our dock were 2 C Saturday and Sunday morning.
The winds Saturday didn't move the main ice sheet much on the south shore where we are...but it won't be much longer. The ice sheet is thinning every day.
The ospreys are already catching a few pickerel staging to come in and spawn.

It has been quite a crazy jump in water level over the last week! I have more ice on the North Shore than Grumpa but the ice is definitely giving way. I actually got out for a canoe ride last night.

Nipissing's main lake ice sheet continues to thin each day now.
Open water continues to extend out from the shallower warmer bays, inflow creeks and spill ways.
Since the rains quit on Friday, the eyeball test tells me water levels are up about another 5" into Tuesday.
Water temperatures in our bay, on the south shore, got up to 5C Monday afternoon...and like clock work...Monday night...the first spawning pickerel showed up around our dock. All smaller males at first and not big numbers of fish, as yet. But the annual seasonal spawning ritual has begun again.
The attached photo was taken from Deep Water Bay west to the Manitou islands Tuesday morning.

Apparently maximum NON damage water levels are to be reached on Friday for Lake Nipissing with the possibility of more to come.Might want to check on your cottages/camps.

The lake level is up just shy of 1.6 meters or 5' 3" since April 1st. Being that the average depth of Nipissing is 15 feet there has been about 1/3 of the total water Nipissing holds has been replaced in a little more than a month.
The level is expected to continue to rise in the next 10 to 15 days as well.

The rate of rise was slowing down but more rain and higher forecast temperatures could change that.

Thanks Neil. Your reports have been informative and beneficial to all of us on Nipissing. This is definitely going to be a challenging spring for property owners throughout the watershed. Levels are approaching the range we had about 10 years ago...which was the worst I'd seen over a number of years. The high waters levels present their own problems...combined with strong winds and damaging wave action...those problems magnify.
Your description of the water volume that's being moved really emphasizes why Nipissing is a rapid flush and fill water body....and consequently why the lake is relatively clean and healthy.
Unfortunately, there's still more water coming downstream from the Temagami watershed...not to mention the additional rainfall expected.

I can only hope that none of you have to experience the damages happening
south of you
