It's only 7 weeks now until my first fishing trip for the year. I've booked a cottage at Lake Lauzon Resort for 4 nights in mid May for some catch and release smallies and maybe some walleye (never targeted them before). Everything I've read and seen (YouTube videos and Fish N Canada) has had great reviews for the fishing in this lake. So I'm starting to get really excited to get there for the first time. I just had my finishing maintenance and hull waxing done on the buggy and everything is working great so all I need is the ice to melt!!
If anyone has any tips on what type of structure that I should target or baits to use (especially for walleye since I know nothing about fishing for them), it would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking forward to this particular trip since October!!

I have never been up there but I just reviewed the map. The big island in the lauzon bay and the south shore line looks perfect reminds me of grand island in balsam nice drop offs to deeper water the smallmouth bass and walleye are just waiting for you on those ledges. This lake is much deeper than balsam but not around that area. And it is not to far from the marina for a shorter ride back if you plan on fishing as it is getting dark. I am sure the people up there will have great advice for you and where to catch your next PB. Good Luck Stay Safe. You can message me anytime about walleye in balsam etc.

Much appreciated. I'm looking into a GoPro before making the trek up there so I'm hoping to have some video to go along with pics. Thanks.

If walleye are not cooperating its only small trip to the Spanish river for some great walleye fishing.

That one I know. it's only a short drive to my buddy at Brennan Harbour Resort where I'm book in for the first week in Sept.

I've never heard of walleyes being caught in Lauzon in 30 yrs. Giant musky, smallies, big lakers and Ling are in there. Maybe I'm wrong.

Brennan Harbour should be rocking and rolling with walleyes coming out if the river post spawn. Just depends on water Temps.

McCarthy Lake near Elliot Lake was named one of fishing Canada's best bass lakes.

Lots of options for spec fishing up there too along the Elliot lake hwy. Stocked speck lakes.

Lots of options. Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

I did a search for information on McCarthy Lake but couldn't find anything other than location. Do you have a link for some additional information? It seems like a good lake for browns and maybe even lakers and the access looks good as well. I'd definitely be interested in a one day excursion there.

Hey I spent 3 nights at lake lauzon 8-9 yrs ago. I didnít catch any walleye. I caught Lakers, pike and monster smallmouth. Biggest smallmouth Iíve ever seen till this day that my wife caught out of there. Water so clear you can see like 40ft down. Very beautiful place.

Now I'm really getting excited!!

If in fact there aren't any walleye in Lauzon, I can always trailer up and head across the highway for the Whaleback Channel since the Spanish municipal marina is only a 20 minute drive away.

Is it May yet?

Correct me if I'm wrong.. because I'm just too lazy to look it up right now, but I believe Bass are open all year long in that zone

You are correct. I'm going in May to make certain that there's no ice chunks still floating around in Lauzon. Otherwise, I'd be up there next week!!!

Just a quick check to see if anyone else has any words of wisdom (not honey holes!) before I head up to the lake. I called the owner of the lodge and she said that people have been renting the cottages and were on the lake fishing last Monday. There have been conservation officers patrolling the lake recently and have not stopped anyone other than to check licenses and safety equipment.
I'm getting so pumped!!!
