Lots of springs and live weed beds thin the ice greatly. When I used to fish the top of Scugog Island, there were 3 small areas you have to careful around.

Some nice fish there and love the little sunfish the perch was feeding on.

Bluegills more appropriately named, we’ve had Pumpkinseed in the kawarthas as far as I can remember as a boy, but bluegills only with in the last 15 years same as the crappies, This is why the MNR opened it to Pan fishing, And it’s crazy to see the explosion of perch in the bog after the collapse of The walleye

Bluegills and crappies are both notorious fry feeders, put a bluegill in a fish tank With any other warm water fish and you’ll see what I mean, the only reason the crappie survive is because they suspend

What's the ice looking like on Scugog? I'm planning to go ice fishing this weekend in the huts.

My 9 and 12 year old have been dying to get out fishing I'm gonna drag them out from the boat launch in Port Perry Sunday get a couple buddy heaters going and kettle boiling if it takes them off the video games I'll be out there.

Anyone know how the ice is on that end of I'm gonna walk with the boys or tow them on the sled with the atv like they love. Cheers

The boat launch should be fine for going out. There ware about 4 inches at the launch and over 10 inches further out. I don't know about using an ATV (I walk), but it should be okay. I'll be there on Saturday
