Lymphocystis is found infecting saltwater and freshwater fish species. We commonly find the "growths" on Ontario Walleye particularly during the spawning season. Some Walleye populations have a higher prevalence (a larger proportion of the fish are infected) than others.

Little blurb of info for anyone looking to research - seems as though spawning is an optimal time for this disease to be transmitted from fish to fish but is not known to affect humans

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM A FISHERIES PERSON ON WHAT THIS COULD BE AND IF IT IS SOMETHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT.
THANKS

I heard it's caused by guys dropping their cell phones down the holes

I know a guy that lost a phone down a ice hole, he spent 3 days trying to get it with a magnet. I told it wasn't any good anymore.

His response: ( I know it's still good, because when I call it my message machine still picks up)
