Hi,
We are looking at renting a cottage on Sturgeon Lake (by Birch Point) over February Family Day Weekend and I am hearing that there is no ice fishing on Sturgeon Lake. Is this true? Does anyone know if ice fishing is a) allowed and good on Sturgeon Lake.
Thanks for any assistance - it is greatly appreciated

Check the regs, never go on what someone tells you..

Thanks for the reply. We have checked regs and they just say perch, crappie, and pike are open (for species) so one of the guys called up to the hardware store in Bobcaygeon and were told by a local that no fishing allowed on Sturgeon Lake up there. I find it hard to believe (as I have seen many pics on Fishbrain of winter setups) so that is why I was reaching out.

Thank-you. We will be renting between Birch Point and Ancona Point (lakefront property) so not sure if its walkable to good hardwater spots or if we'll need to drive 1 or 2km to Emily Creek area or further to somewhere near Fife's Point. Also, is it better fishing if we were to go to Pigeon or Scugog. We'll be up for 3 full days of fishing (late Thursday PM to Monday AM) so we could try other places.

If you are renting a cottage to go ice fishing I wouldn’t bother on sturgeon. You are better to just use a guide like Casey’s on simcoe. If you have already booked I would recommend driving to scugog or rice lake. The only reason I ice fish sturgeon is because I have a cottage up there. You aren’t going to find much for numbers on sturgeon. Maybe some small perch and prob no crappie.

only pan fish in the winter, and theres no pike in sturgeon. Its not really a good ice fishing lake.
