I was out on the ice yesterday all day and measured the ice with a tape measure and found 5.5 to 7 inches of ice everywhere I was with no pressure cracks just good consistent ice.

I was also out on the ice yesterday south of the causeway and measured from 5” up to 7” in spots. By the looks of the weather next week. Most of the lakes should have good ice by Christmas 🤞.

Anyone fishing out by the islands yet? Want to get out before all 40 permanent huts crowd it out

Went out today to the islands south of the causeway and there was 8” of good solid ice.

Decent crowd out there as well as three permanent huts. Caught lots of perch and rock bass but I couldn’t find the crappie. Fished from 2:30pm to 6:00pm but neither myself our my cousin popped up a crappie. Fishing in about 8 feet of very cloudy water.

Highlight of the night was me hauling out an 8+ plus walleye. Was a bit of a battle on a light rod with 2lb test. A forage minnow with hooked dead minnow was what got him in. Promptly went right back down the hole.

Ran into a pair and a single who were fishing nearby and both were super friendly which was really nice.

Was bummed that the idiots on four wheelers and dirt bikes were already out there buzzing through and around the fishermen. A young lad on a loud two stroke dirt bike buzzed by a single fisherman within 20ft of where he was sitting.

If this is you, your kid, or someone you know please remind them of some basic etiquette.

There were sleds out on the weekend before it got warm, havent seen any sleds since it got warm all week. The lake looks like its lost a fair bit of ice since Sunday.

There we four wheelers and sleds on the ice on the 26th. Plenty of good solid ice out there.

That being said I wouldn’t drive a car or truck out there.

Forgot to mention that there isn’t a skiff of snow out there and the ice is smooth so if you forget your ice grippers you may as well turn around and go home.

Ya definitely no truck lol, depending where you are the ice varies in thickness. The shoreline is a total mess with the warm weather, lots of ice heaving.

Any idea what the warm weather did to the thickness around the causeway boat launch or is fifes a better bet?

Out yesterday ice is 10 inches plus and very slick , lots of decent sized perch and got 13 nice crappie. Had to move around and found a small weedbed. Shoreline is great no issues at all.

Thanks 9". Fished with you on last ice a couple of years ago. Haven't been out yet because I have moved farther away from Chemong. But good to hear the report of the ice conditions and also that you caught some decent fish. Hope to get up there soon but I think I will feel better once we get some more subzero temps.
