Hey guys,

I've recently started seeing a girl who lives on Canal Lake. I was wondering if anyone ice fishes the lake or does the current make it too sketchy? I assume with the google map searching I've done that certain parts of the lake are safe in the winter.

just curious is all....

Thanks in advance!!

I've got a cottage on canal and only ever tried to ice fish once.. was a little put off by the fact that it was a foot of ice, followed by under 2 feet of water. Definitely need to scout it for drop offs and such.

Let us know how you make out this season! Tons of perch, crappie and pike in the spring, figure they gotta be in there somewhere in the winter.

That reminds me of last year on Scugog when me and my buddy drilled through like 18" of ice or so to find 4" of water underneath.

I had a cottage there years ago and fishing was awesome. Was considering ice fishing lately, maybe I will check it out on a drive up north to Lake Getinmycar. Love it!

Alright.....2 times.... 2 skunks!!

Day 1 (Friday) Depths are a little tricky because they drop the lake so much in the winter and the weeds are so high. Had a decent sized pike come in and stare at my bait the first day and then just swim off. Fished for about 6 hours. Drilled a lot of holes and covered a lot of water.... Walked over 5km total ....nothing to show for it.

Day 2...(Monday).... Drilled a ton of holes, but didn't cover quite as much water as day 1. Had a hit on my rattle bait, but didn't really hook up. Unfortunately, nothing else to report. I know they're in there, just not sure where they go.

Heading out this weekend on Canal to scout some areas. Will mostly be working the shallower east end.. will report back if there is anything substantial to report!

May also try out Dalrymple, Mitchell and Balsam if there is time and effort available.
