Nope. Its really strange. There were mosquitos about 3 weeks ago for a few days but no bugs since. Just gnats. Could also be that I fish in the heavy wind lol. But haven’t even noticed anything around the yard except for the odd gnats (not black flies) flying around my head.

Nothing here in Sudbury but its warming up this weekend im sure next week the bugs will be around !!
I was working in Nipigon right at the river and driving up on Monday we had snow /hail /rain and Sunny .

I am a bit surprised you want it warmer. What would you consider the best temp range for specks or lakers? Don't many go after 'ice-out' lakers? thx

Right after ice out isn’t so good as waiting a few weeks from what I’ve seen. I’ve been trying with fairly poor results lately...and also would say we need a bit of a warm up to get the fish going. Even though ice has been gone quite a while now, we haven’t had much warm weather. They need warming water for bugs and hatch activity to get the shallow feed happening.

I believe in what you say about letting the water warm up for brookies i like the surface temp above 60 degrees ,

Lakers should be on fire now flat lining them .

Got bit by a few Black Flies in the Dorset area today. Forecast weather should have them out in force soon. Surface water temperature 52 degrees F.
