Went out for a hike up the road from my place with my son and my cousin this morning. I decided to bring a rod with one lure (small copper spinner) and some worms... cause you never know where you might find some fish! After walking through the bush for about 45min through hordes of Mosquitoes... we come to a tiny little lake I’ve always wanted to toss a line into. In a small, shallow bay, from shore in maybe 3fow, I toss my line in, I swear I have a hit, it is pretty shallow though... another toss in, this time I see at least two fish follow my lure right to shore. Ok, third cast, immediately slam something and snap my line..... shoot... I didn’t bring any more lures... well, sure enough my son happens to find a pink, one Oz jig head on the end of some discarded line.... perfect! It looks brand new! But I’m thinking, damn, that’s a big jig head lol.... oh well, beggars can’t be choosers... tie on the pink monstrosity of a jig head on my line and tip it with a worm.... toss it in.... bang! Caught a 6” brookie! Sweet! Not only that but a cloud of about 20 trout of all sizes were chasing the pink jig head. I needed to keep a fairly aggressive constant jig motion to prevent snags on the logs, but they seemed to love the extremely fast drop. Toss it back in, bang another one this one 8” male popped off and swam away as I lifted it out. Toss it back it, bang! Lost another one, this one felt big though. Only using maybe a 1/4 inch piece of worm at a time. Toss it back in again, bang! This ones got fight! Manage it to shore and beheld a decent brookie... snapped a pic and back in the water. Tossed the lure In again, bang! ROCK! Lost the jig head and my gun was over haha, back to the house for pizza. To my knowledge these are natural specks. My son enjoyed doling out the worms, and chucking half of them in the water. Bug jackets were a must. Next time I’m wearing the hat with the extra hooks haha. Stay safe!
