change of pace ....went and got enough of these guys for a great meal

How does rock bass taste. I catch huge rock bass at night on balsam when I am fishing for walleye and crappie. I have never ate one though. Is it a strong fishy taste, or is it close to walleye and crappie.

Super white meat and absolutely delicious.

Every bit as good as any pan fish.

Thank you very much, I will give some balsam rock bass a try on the bbq.

Rock bass can definitely be delicious, especially depending on the type of water they come out of. Nice bass… tourney anglers are jealous.

I’m dying to go fishing! I’ve been too busy the last 4 weeks cleaning up my house that burned down…. Most of the fishing gear survived though!

Thanks for the report, LS! Nice cottage trip and great fishing!

I do not normally target rock bass or blue gills but some of my friends love fishing for them in July-August on light tackle and swear by how good tasting they are.

Very sorry to hear about your house. Someone at my work lost their house last year. I hope you did not lose to much.

Looks like good few days and fishing!

I may need to keep a rock bass and try. Last time I ate them was more than 5 years ago. With friend we went to Sault Ste Marie area and fished some small shallow lake and only fish we were able to catch were rock back. We cleaned and cooked them in the dark somehow and I did not like them...

For myself I only eat rock bass from shield lakes where it is colder water.....I was gettiig the big ones in 18 to 22 fow. the one in the pic is a mod sizer.

I consider them far better than crappie, but not as good as perch
