I went out yesterday with long-time fishing partner, Allan Halls, to one of our go-to lakes in Muskoka and we were not disappointed. Although the morning was very slow forcing us to "walk and stalk," action picked up in the afternoon with Allan icing a good fish while I went two for three.
My fish were all caught on a modified drop shot using a Simcoe Bug tipped with a minnow in 65 fow.
Ice was 17" -- mostly white ice with a skim of fresh snow -- but with a good layer of black ice at the bottom. Several snow machines were seen on the lake.

Still haven’t added the Simcoe bug to my tackle. Minnow without it didn’t seem to be working very good.

I didn't measure it but it looks close to 24"; it's pictured with a 30" rod.

Simcoe Bug tipped with a live or plastic minnow works well. It is my go-to bait.

Overall, it was a slow day but happy that I landed two!

Nice lakers. Glad to hear Allan was out with you. I hadn't heard anything from him for a while and was thinking if you guys were fishing.
