My friend and I are going ice fishing and we are taking our wives along. We both have licenses but the wives don" t want to fish. This is the question: are we allowed to catch the limit for our wives who do not have a license as well for ourselves or do our wives have to have a license to take their possession home? We are not trying to cheap out because we are paying already for them as if they are going fishing with us. We just want to know if 4 fishing licenses are required to take our limit home. Please be nice as we only fish once a year.

Your license is what allows you access to the limit, otherwise you are not allowed to fish, etc..

Just the people who hold a license can fish unless you go on free family weekend. No worries, you won't need women as chances of getting a limit are slim to none.

goes deeper than that.....even if your wife had a license, you cannot catch a limit for her

your license allows x number of fish for you and you only

considered party fishing

There is a little more to this as well. In some cases there are separate catch and possession limits but these are the same for fish caught in Nipissing. This means as Shank pointed out and assuming you have a sport fishing licence and in the case of walleye that once you have two keepers over 46cm in the cooler to go home you are done. Keeping another fish puts you over the limit. Your buddy is allowed the same assuming he also has a sport fishing licence. You can eat your two fish and get two more assuming you find several larger fish. If you got your wives a conservation license they would only be allow 1 walleye over 46cm each that they catch. If they get sport fishing licenses they would both be allowed to catch and possess 2 walleye over 46cm.
Perch have a catch and possession limit of 50 with a sport licence and 25 with a conservation licence.

Catch and possession limits

The catch limit is the number of fish you are allowed to catch and keep in one day and includes fish that are not immediately released and any fish eaten or given away. Catch limits apply to each individual and any fish gifted to another person count towards your catch limit even if they are gifted to a member of your fishing party.

The possession limit is the number of fish you are allowed to have in your possession on hand, in cold storage, in transit, or anywhere. Possession limits are the same as one day’s catch limit except where otherwise specified. If you catch a fish after reaching the daily catch or possession limit for that species, the fish must be released immediately. If the limit is zero, anglers may practice catch and release only, and any fish caught must be released immediately

Read the exceptions rules for that area. Never ever, ever neglect to read the exceptions or it may bite you in the butt. CO's have sharp Ferengi teeth.

If a conservation officer for instance sees that you are catching your limit for lets say 4 days in a row and he finally finds out where you live and finds that you have a 3 day limit in the freezer, and that being said you have a wife and 3 children at home even though they did not go fishing with you are you in trouble for being over your limit? Ore is it that you are allowed the limit for each one in your household providing that you did not catch all of them in one day?

Might be ok for kids assuming under 18. If wife over 65 you’re good too. Also exemptions for vets & blind/disabilities. You should read Regs.

No increased limit for family based solely on numbers.

Cheers

Thanks for all the response fellows. How many of you local fellows who go out numerous times a week might be pushing the limits on regulations.
