Heading home from our Family Day weekend trip with SSIC Feb 17 to 20.

Garnet and Cara Lee along with their friendly/always accommodating team consistently sets the example of how efficiently an outfitter can operate. I’m always impressed (and appreciative) of the extra miles they take to maintain the performance of the business and provide such a premium experience for their customers.

It was an ‘earn your every fish’ style weekend for the most part, temp fluctuations seemed to diminish the bite, demanding more of a finesse style approach to icing fish. Would have been lost without the Striker 4/GT8 to interpret and adapt to the behaviour.

It’s easy to fall victim to couch lock in the hut and get swallowed up by the comfort but this weekend was a prime example of the benefits in getting outside and changing location/contour/depth.

- 36 Eyes (1 Keeper), 1 Pike, 1 Perch.

Washed nearly the entire collection of lures and the only success was from actively jigging small mostly black jig heads, striking on a slow rise once separation gap closed. I couldn’t buy a bite on a deadstick, spoon or otherwise past Nip proven technique. Things picked up for the afternoon bite (2:30 to 6:00) on Sunday which generated alot of those eyes including the 17”, 21”, 28”. All others were the average 15”.

The other fellas fished from inside the bungalow and caught 0, 1, 1, 3 & 4 fish… ambition doesn’t always pay well, as we know… but this weekend it thankfully did, accompanied by sonar, jawjackers and Northland eye-ball jig heads.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and tight lines to those still out there, cheers!

Can’t not mention this 27.6” (70cm) hog of a walleye, this was a dream catch for me, still coming down off the high. She was quickly released in perfect health and will likely hold my PB record for a while

…until next time SSIC

Perseverance always pays off. Looks like a good weekend on ice for your group, even with that slow bite. Well done!

Cheers everyone, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the content on this forum for years so it’s a pleasure to contribute.

I’m 4 weeks out of surgery from a broken collarbone but the plate and screws did the job, hats off the to surgeon. I was joking with him at the 2 week follow-up asking him if the plate would handle a 30” Walleye in 2 weeks. Like actually joking cause in the 7 years coming up, while we would catch lots, we would normally struggle to break the former +46cm slot

Here’s a pic while she was on the way up for measurement and into the natural position for a pic before releasing… helps to scale the size of the fish which is neat. Hand was clearly frozen but you never know it when your BUZZIN with this much adrenaline.

Have a good day folks, planning to head back to the Nip this weekend to try and keep the multi species streak alive.
