A four-week enforcement blitz by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry saw 111 charges laid and 32 warnings issues in Peterborough County and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

The MNRF says from May 1-28, conservation officers from Peterborough and Bancroft enforcement units checked 259 anglers.

The numbers are scary. 140 violations from only 259 inspections.
Unfortunately this will always continue to happen.

I's like to see a few things that would be realistic.

Some sort of required attendance to a training course after first offense. So many offenders claim ignorance or misunderstanding of the rules.

Lifetime fishing ban for second offense.

Larger fines goes without saying.

We need more enforcement...

There are only 2 CO's combined for the Peterborough and the Bancroft region; can you imagine what the results would have been if they had more assets ticketing people?

Not sure where you are getting your numbers from...There are more than 2 CO's for Peterborough and Bancroft...Both Peterborough and Bancroft have their own CO's..PTBO has at least 8...just check on info go..Bancroft also has 8

Nice to know more actions to enforce the law. Wish the OPP will do the same thing for the boating regulations too.

The CO's are going to have to make examples of some people in order to get this done., huge fines & pictures in the media., in papers of all languages, we live near scugog, we like to boat there, there is always people on the shore catching anything that moves, while looking over their shoulders

So Sad.
I simply do not get it. Strictly fish catch and release and often I'm asked for the fish and "I simply say no". I wont judge anyone for keeping a legal fish, i'm totally ok with that but to destroy like that is brutal.

Furthermore, the whole point is to is to eat "Fresh fish" not Frozen fish!

I welcome the law to come in and ask me for license and check my gear anytime. I often see a bunch of clowns party fishing (stealheads)... main reason I got off the shore.

need higher fines and take away fishing privleges and post their pics in the paper.
seen guy in charge of Peterborough on tv and he mentioned they would like to keep sanctuaries safe from these people to help fish spawn.
on a different note the dumbest part about his speech on helping fish survive is when you have a group of people that would like to help these areas why not work with them in trying to restore areas and not turn down the effort and wait for the fish stocks to deplete to a number where it is shut down like scugog. send your support for the fishery https://jamieschmale.ca/walleye/#top
