Nice catch! Those are gobies. It's full of them and they are a very easy prey for perch and small mouth.

Wrong, those gobies will exterminate the perch and bass population.
That was told many times by the fishing gurus of Simcoe.

Not sure if the fishing gurus were right or it will happen very long time from now. I ve been ice fishing one Georgian Bay area for maybe 18 years now. Gobies were always there, so was perch and bass, in fact the perching has improved there over the years, same goes with Erie and even Cooks bay.

Gobies were not always there as they are an invasive species. you may be thinking of sculpins.

however, agree that the fishery has not been adversely impacted for perch, nor walleye from gobies. last few years have been stellar for numbers, but other variables come into effect as well.

to date mother nature has seemed to have done quite well adapting to all the invaders
