Trolling motor saver

I’ve been hitting a lot of rocks with my trolling motor recently, so I decided to build a solution for it. Curious if anyone here has experimented with something similar.

interesting. my motor has a built-in fin/guard. I guess that's not a universal feature?

I know the fin on mine wouldn't stand up to rocks. your idea would protect the fin, but wondering if that would impact the steering control. Also you would probably still wreck your prop.

Could you mount a second fish finder/transducer under the bow-mounted trolling motor?

It might give you a little extra warning and a few more seconds to react before hitting the rocks.

There is a commercial product- extra large fin for Minnkota/MG. It apparently saves a lot of battery charge when added to the motor. About $150 I think.

I might be wrong, but there might be a built in transducer on the back of that motor - it's just a matter of installing a bow mounted sonar. Minn Kotas are generally compatible with Birds, but I believe there's an adapter for Lowrance or Garmin units.

If there isn't a transducer, it's easy enough to mount one on the bottom of the trolling motor.

There is a built-in transducer; however, I am using a Garmin. I will check to see if I can find that adapter. Thanks!
