So thanks to some generous donations to the cause I am now holding a second ice thickness competition. This time you must guess what the Nipissing ice thickness will be on March 15, 2020. The Rules have changed to make things easier so review the rules below:
1) YOUR ANSWER MUST BE IN THE YOUTUBE COMMENTS SECTION OF THIS VIDEO.
2) You must SUBSCRIBE to Kokemachine, 4 Eel Fishing. 3) You must LIKE this video. 4) Guesses must be in inches with the finest measurement being 1/8th of an inch.
5) You can guess whatever you want and change it whenever you want between NOW and March 1st. The opportunity to make or change your guess will be closed March 1st, at Midnight. 6) If your guess is the same as someone else's that is fine. If there are repeat guesses of the winning number then the names of correct guessers will be drawn from a hat to determine the final winner. 7) I have sole and final judgement of the ice thickness. *8) You can earn one bonus guess if you share this video on any kind of social media. When placing your second guess include details of where you shared it. This can be on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest or whatever. 9) Confirmation of the above requirements will be necessary to get the prize package. 10) Have fun.

this is kinda looking like spam, or self promotion or free advertising, that's probably why guys are turned off
I won't be subscribing
Hi chris.brock,
Definitely giveaways are a self-promotion method used by many Youtubers to gain subscribers. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think when I have held my annual ice thickness contest on the season opener it tends to be the cherry on the cake of my ice reports. The ice reports themselves tend to get me quite a few subscribers but I also get a few more people who are already watching to commit to subscribing by holding the contest. Subscribing is free and an easy way to get in the contest to win free stuff. For me it helps because Youtube is governed by an algorithm that chooses whether or not your video work is worthy of promoting within Youtube. The more subscribers you have the better you fare or at least that's what they tell you. In the first few years I used my own money and customizing to create the prize package. This past opener contest I worked up the nerve to ask a few local businesses if they wanted to throw in on the prize package on the reward of having their business mentioned in the contest video. It saved me some money and helped promote local businesses. I don't think either of those goals are bad things. It also caused me to connect to others in the local fishing community on a personal level as opposed to me just being some hoser on the internet.
In the case of this "Nipissing Closer Contest" this is the first time I have held a second contest in the same year. I usually only hold one a year because they tend to be both expensive for me and a little nerve-wracking to be honest. There is a lot of stuff to keep track of. With this contest I was given the gear to giveaway so I figured what could it hurt to giveaway more stuff to subscribers. I am promoting a local business, true, but as well half the prize package was donated by a forum member only for the reason that he had some extra stuff and wanted to help me promote my channel as a fan for nothing in return (Thanks Kenster!). With this contest it is true compared to my other contests it has been receiving far less attention. I keep hoping that people are just holding out until closer to the contest close date to make their guess. But as has been a trend over the last few years once the season begins people are busy fishing (understandably) and my channel tends to lose almost half of its viewership. So I was hoping this might get people stoked for the channel again or at least to win some stuff.
The optimist in me is hoping that when you say that this is looking like "Spam" that it is a comment on how far my graphic design skills have improved and that my thumbnail is starting to look more pro - like a real ad. Over the past few years I have been working nights and taking courses in multimedia design with the hope that one day I wont have to work nights anymore. At the same time coming off as spam is definitely not the vibe I am going for. In the end I am just a guy filming myself on the shore of lake Nipissing with a cell phone, editing on my own time for the fun of it and trying to share my passion for fishing.
Thank you for the comment. If you did change your mind and subscribe and make a guess it might make your closing day minutely more exciting and you could potentially take this stuff off my hands. If not that is cool as well.

Don’t worry about it Koke, You can’t please everyone. You certainly have your fans on this forum. Thanks for your efforts and keep up the great work.
Thanks, Zzzangler. How has fishing been on your end of the lake?
Really slow! Probably the worst it’s been since living here. Started to venture out away from the group looking for new grounds. Hoping it picks up into March.
