I went out in my kayak and got 8 walleye, 1 bass and 1 pike. Missed a few others as well. All the walleye were in the 17 inch range. No keepers but very close. Was definitely great to get out!

Thanks for the update...being that many of us are stuck at home, it is nice to share other people's joy!

The old man got a few nice ones this weekend. Not crazy numbers, but two keepers yesterday evening, and released a 25 incher this morning. I can't wait to get up there.

Cold start to the season.
Pickerel were still spawning around our dock til the holiday Monday.
Main lake surface water temps around 46-48F much of the long weekend. Caught as many walleye on 4 & 5" sinking minnow baits as we did on live bait, minnows or worms.
We found few fish on the deeper main lake reefs. Most fish were still fairly shallow. All of our fish over 46cms were caught on the first break lines leading to deeper water off natural spawning bays and near spawning shoals and points
With the warmer temps coming in the next couple weeks...the bite should start to pick up considerably. Caught enough for a good meal.
All in all...a slow to average opener on Nip for our crew this year.

As always, Nip yielded more then just walleye.

It was cold and slow. Went to camp hoping for the little bit of sun and warmer weather they had forcasted. We got NE wind (all weekend) and gloomy skies (just about all weekend). I wanted to catch some bait, but with the east wind no shiners made it into the shallows. I didn't even fish Saturday or Monday. My dad went for a couple hours before dark.. caught 2 perch right at dusk.
I fished for a bit Sun. morning. Something small stripped my minnow after about 20 mins. That was it.
Jetted to the mouth of a little south facing inlet about 8:30 that night for a quick fish after the wind died. I knew there would be fish there. Lost one and caught one little guy right off the bat and then nothing. Might have missed the bite.. my dad got 2 as well (no keepers). I wasn't too big on the fishing. Only rigged one rod and never even sorted the tackle box (I raid it for our bungalow trip every winter). Waiting for nicer weather and warmer fish. I fish from the opener on every year but don't really get goin' until the first week of June.
