Cold start to the season.
Pickerel were still spawning around our dock til the holiday Monday.
Main lake surface water temps around 46-48F much of the long weekend. Caught as many walleye on 4 & 5" sinking minnow baits as we did on live bait, minnows or worms.
We found few fish on the deeper main lake reefs. Most fish were still fairly shallow. All of our fish over 46cms were caught on the first break lines leading to deeper water off natural spawning bays and near spawning shoals and points
With the warmer temps coming in the next couple weeks...the bite should start to pick up considerably. Caught enough for a good meal.
All in all...a slow to average opener on Nip for our crew this year.
