Planning to go out on Lake Ontario for some salmon fishing going out to Port credit just wondering should I be heading towards Niagara River or out to the blue zone. i usually fish Lake Ontario in mid July and never have tried this early and was curious where to go.

Any suggestions will help thanks

I have been fishing for salmon on the south shore for over 20 years from April to October

Never fished Port Credit and don't ever plan to

Salmon are in the lake year round and I often wonder why more people are not getting out early to chase them

Fish shallow, watch your temps, find a 2 degree change to warmer water and they will be there

I have got them in 6-75 fow in April and May

Weather is a factor as are baitfish

You using a fish hawk longshank, or will a 2 degree temp change on the surface make all the difference?

I use both.....but look for the surface temps first....eg yesterday we were banging them with a down temp of 43-45. even got some at 39 degrees

just go troll and experiment until you find some hooks on the graph....fish there in 4 directions is my best advice
