Really foggy at C'wood this morning. Without a GPS it would have been no go. Cruised out of the harbor at 6mph and could see about 20ft in front.
I wanted to get to 90fow to fish, and I didn't mark any fish until I hit 85fow. I put one of my favorite Luhr Jensen Shoehorn spoons on (it is in the 2nd pic.), put the spoon down 75ft and 80ft behind the ball and started trolling at 2.5mph.
Within 2 minutes rod fires and I have a 5.5lb laker (pic 1).
Did a reset and 15 minutes later another laker, this one 5 lbs.(pic 2)
Not bad it is not quite 9am and I have 2 fish in the boat and my limit of lakers.
Thought OK, maybe I can find some salmon or a rainbow higher in the water column. Headed for some deeper water and put the ball down 60ft and the lure 120ft behind the ball. Around 10am the rod fires in 110fow and laker #3 is a statistic. (pic3) Kept it in the net in the water while I got the hook out and he went back to the bottom like a shot.
Went in and out in 100 to 150 fow, keeping the ball at 60ft and the lure back 120ft.
Marked very little and called it quits at Noon.
The laker fillets are now in the dry cure and the Bradley will be in operation tomorrow to produce the first batch of indian candy for 2021.
Great start to the season.
