Some trucks out there yesterday I had my tiny little car over a km out getting some funny looks! Snow cover is great (8 inches?). We measured 12-14 inches of good ice

Lots of traction too I could break my own trail wherever I wanted, might be back out tonight... tomorrow for sure

No 4wd, very low clearance FWD car. I have very good studded tires, I was pushing snow with the front bumper the whole way out and never even spun a tire.. like I said lotsa funny looks.

Fishing sucked.. 1 tiny walleye.. but when we got there we walked out, didn't drive out unil I drilled some holes... so next time well go further to our normal spot.
Last year I drove my car 1/2 way out to the islands all winter long haha

Thanks for the update ,Atv I figured you must of had something ,Studded tires. My front wheel Sante Fe is pretty useless.I saw you out there as I was checking the snow depth at sunset getting ready to go soon.Must have been the high after the low pressure storm that killed the bite.

I find fishing that close to shore never really produces much for us.. I like to go out 2.5 at least normally to get on the perch.. thats where I am going next time. Looks like Ill be able to break trail until next Tuesday when we get another snow storm.. after that Ill be following others' tracks or bringing out the heavy chevy

Fishing was ok wed-thursday. Good sized perch but no slot sized pickerel. Ice is 16"+ @ 2kms+ at sunset park. Lots of trucks, good traffic flow. One minor pressure crack 1km out and a bigger one 2km out. Stay safe and thanks for the replies.

Sunset weekend fishing report.Fishing was slow with nothing til 4 Friday with a quick run of 4 walleyes,4 perch.Sunday another late bite at 5 with 1 walleye ,5 perch.
No keepers as usual.Out a few K's but slowest January opener for me.Perch seem scarce.Usually early Jan is better

Any major pressure cracks within 1-1.5km of shore from Sunset?

Going to be putting my shack on this weekend, not sure if I will have to use the sled or if I can get away with using just my truck. Is it 16" of black ice or white ice?

Edit: Also how's the fishing been this close to shore? Usually I like to go further out but not going to this year.

1 small crack 1 k out, nothing to worry about, bigger crack further out.Trucks are all over with no worries. As for fishing you've seen my posts. Not so good for perch 2 k out.Fish are biting late 4-5 pm getting 3-4 Pic's[smaller]and 3-4 perch. It would be nice to know where the perch are hiding out.Good luck with your choice.

Okay perfect, will take the truck then! I don't really have the best luck in close but might as well try for the first day anyways.
