I went out to my favourite lake today, just to get out. With the weather patterns, I wasn't expecting much. No surprise, just monster bluegills all day. Until about 1pm, when I got a snag, and pulled up some line. Okay, time to clean up the lake a bit, I put down my rod, and pulled on the line, and there was a lot of it, but I felt something on both ends. Great, I got another twig. For reference, I am a master at catching panfish, plus the occasional twig in the water. I should get a lure to clean up at least for my efforts. I pulled and pulled and still more line. Finally, I found the end with the hooks. No lure, just a weird (to me) drop shot set up. Time to get the other end. At this point, I figured the fisherman got spooled, just based on the amount of line I had loose in my boat. Here comes the stick, but it's not just a stick, it a complete set up. It makes up (a little) for the lack of fish catches.
This was lost recently, as everything was complete (line and hooks were still in good condition). If you lost your rod, and can let me know where you lost it, I can give it back. Otherwise, another one gets added to the collection. The only hint I will give you is that it is a Shimano set up (rod and reel). It doesn't look like a Canadian Tire special, so I only want to give it back to the person who knows something about it. Pics to follow (before cleanup and after.
I also grabbed some hoser's juice bottle they threw in the lake. Just doing my bit.

You never know what you are going to catch. Ten years ago I lost a nice reel and rod on Balsam. Obviously not the one you found. I reached back to cast, caught the lure on one of my other rods and over my head it went. Gone forever in front of Grand Island in 18 feet of water.

Cool story. It sounds more like someone running in a smaller boat with a rod hanging over the side that the "drop shot" hook dangling in the water caught on a branch and peeled off all the line until it got to the end before yanking the rod and reel out of the boat. The owner probably knew nothing about what was happening until the rod flew past him on the way to a watery grave. On one hand I hope it gets back to the original owner just so we can know exactly how it was lost. On the other hand, if the original owner isn't found that would be a nice addition to your equipment.

Nice catch! Yep, looks like someone had the rod dragged into the water during a boat ride.
I also caught a couple of rods/reels over time but they were some cheap ones which have been under for quite some time and became so rusty so they cannot be restored.

hahaha , I thought I was the only victim of Grand Island about 2 years ago I was unhooking a fish on the front deck and placed the rod half over the side. while still on my knees releasing a nice big bass , my brother notices that my rod slid over the side while surfing a roller , 8-10 ft of water corner of Grand Island before the channel to Ant Island Gone but not forgotten, clear water but couldnt locate it, like a lot of my golf balls LOL
