Yes, thank for the udpates guys, really appreciated.

Guess I will wait a little longer

Yes LS now that you are retired officially you can wait a little while. Your work schedule allows you to fish anytime-anywhere.

what do ppl fish for on Benard Lake

bennybear....Most people are fishing for Lake Trout, Whitefish, Perch and Ling
in Benard Lake.

Here is a link from the Ontario Government where you can look up what Species
of Fish is in a particular Lake anywhere in Ontario and some have
the stocking numbers of fish that have been put in a Lake.

thank you, are the lakers bigger in Bernard than Simcoe, as for numbers what lake would you think is better, I don't keep lakers but sure are fun to catch.

I corrected that "rtirement item" dickie.

No going to happen, but that didn't stop me from ice fishing anyhow....

I have all my Nip stuff ready to go. Simcoe gear and most northern lakes.

Xmas may just get in the way this year

I recognize where you took that pic from! Thanks for the update!

Bernards fish are smaller than Simcoe's. Once you eat whities from there, or other northern waters, you will have issues taking them from Simcoe. Gereral size is about 1.5-2 pounds that have firmer flesh and fight hard for their size. The bite it usually quite lite.
I do believe its the worlds largest freshwater lake without an island. No stocking takes place as it is able to maintain itself up to this point. I know the whitey fishing was not up to par for most last year. Hope this one is better!

I was out on the ice last Sat near shore to clear a rink off for the kids and there was about 4 inches of snow at that time, its been frozen over in our bay for quite some time as it's only 2 to 3 ft deep.Since then we've had a few more inches of snow and the only slush I found was right at shore , but it did look like some slush was forming further out when I was in town last weekend.I don't live to far from the checkerboard and am surprised to see no huts in the usual spots near town .That"s not to say there hasn't been people out fishing as I leave for work at 4:30am and am not back until 5:00pm.The lake has the best tasting whities you'll ever taste but unfortunately I never caught a single one last year.Hopefully this year will be better!!
