I use the marcum showdown troller. Small, portable, Vertical display , easy on the eyes. Not into the constant flashing lights.

I bought a lowrance elite 4x ice package last year, went from hardly catching anything, too, out fishing my buddies 8-1 easily. It has the option of a flasher and sonar or split screen of both.I also purchased a transducer for my boat to get the most out of the unit.

Despite this morning's weather warning for 80 plus km/h winds, I got a good chuckle or two from several of the posts on this thread. I use a Marcum LX-5 when ice-fishing. The reason I prefer it to a graph has absolutely nothing to do with one type being superior to another. I simply find the compact size of the flasher with it's self contained battery and transducer takes up significantly less space than a graph and it is very well protected in its' case and solid surrounding handle. It will also serve to provide the currently recommended social distancing and then some as it can play havoc with the readout of graphs that are in use in too close proximity.

As another Grampa i use the marcum lx 5 as well as grampa jim has stated all the attributes it has serve well enough to usually outfish my buddies that use no type of electronics. Not sure i could go back to fishing without one.Once last year it was left behind by mistake and i felt like i was fishing blind.

Ahahahaha

Good one there Jim

I'm not going to add anything to that except that I gave up flashers back in the 70's

my grandpa still reads the newspaper and watches black and white tv.
I'm sure if he still ice fished he wouldn't be using a graph.

no big deal...i wanted to know if the majority of people that used flashers were "old timers" stubborn in their ways to change over to the more technical video game mode (graph)... i just have a hard time taking people seriously when they say flashers are sooo much better and they can't catch fish without it...and will pay more for a flasher only unit when a lowrance fishfinder is cheaper and has both flasher and graph mode....doesn't make sense to me

I mean im sure that guys can't fish without them but if you need to rely on a flasher to catch fish your not a fisherman.

Historically fishermen and/or anglers always used whatever equipment/tech was available to help them locate and catch fish.

The only negative of using every mean available to us is for the fish not the fisherman. The fish now has a lot less places to hide thanks! to high tech equipment.

Regardless, we are still called fisherman and/or angler.

I use a Marcum Showdown 5.6, Heated LCD screen vertical display flasher.. Works for huge chasing lake trout, white fish, perch, down to minnows..

I like graphs as well, don't get me wrong.. I rushed into buying this one and it worked out..

I have a Showdown too and loved it up until the range button stopped working. Now it's stuck on 20mtrs. which makes it a pain when your not in the depth of that setting range. Marcum wants 120 to repair it and then you have shipping and handling on top. I tried to get them to just send me a new board at 120 and I'd repair it myself but they won't. I have an electronics background so its not like I don't know what I'm doing. Been searching online but can't find the part anywhere. Unfortunately the Chinese market doesn't have it.
