15, First unit I bought was one of the handheld aqua vu's and I've stuck with it since. Really helps understand their behaviour and avoids needing to weed through dinks. The only thing that I don't like about them is that you can't sort through depths and where the fish are suspended as easily. Tight lines!

I think it is not necessarily age that uses flashers but the longer someone has ice fished. The longer you have ice fished the more likely you use a flasher seeing as it was first and the oldest method. More recent ice fishermen use a graph because it was the new technology so they went that way instead of a flasher.
I am 71 and have only been ice fishing for about ten years. I used a graph first and I guess I heard from the guys using a flasher how great it was so I bought a Ice 55.....hated that thing.....so hard to read what is going on.....for me anyway......I went out and upgraded my graph unit and am very happy to use it.....a lot easier to figure out and easier oil the eyes too.

I have both and use both, Hummingbird Ice 55 and Lowrance HDI 5 with the ice transducer. I really like the way I can identify fish and watch them rise after my bait when using the Hummingbird but the Lowrance also has its benefits as well. I vote for a tie! LOL

i use the lowrance elite 4x with dual flasher/graph mode. its super helpful when getting into school of crappie, or jumbos. i never grew up on that stuff though, only getting into it now that its come down in cost and even used models are everywhere.

It is possible something to do with my age in my retirement ........LOL........but I use Vexilar FL20 for years and I love it!!
Maybe some of you in my age can remember a very old American Express commercial : " DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT "........lol....
And I remember a similar old MasterCard commercial:
"THERE ARE SOME THINGS MONEY CAN'T BUY. FOR EVERYTHING ELSE THERE'S VEXILAR FL20"
:-)
X2 xiaolu
And Yes the FL20 is great. I bought a new transducer have 3 different angle of cones so I can see the fish in wider area or narrower or just right at the bait and zoom in the last 6 feet.
And when the display lights up like a Christmas tree.......lol......all RED colour......the fish are right there at my bait......lol.........start catching.......lol....

Don't know much about flashers myself----never stared at one long enough to figure it out----just long enough to feel woozy, not long enough to fall off my chair!

I like my Helix 7 for whitefish and lakers, but for perch and crappie I'll go with my Vexilar FL20. Was also considering the newer FLX28 due to the brighter display as these eyes are not getting younger.

Started with an Eagle Silent Sixty One portable flasher years ago and it worked great. Still have it. Now I use a Humminbird 525 graph. I like the fact if you aren't watching then at least there is a history, albeit short, of what you missed if you step away.
