Was also out with John Harding and he is a class act. Made sure we were comfortable all weekend. Overall fishing was slow and the action was not what I am used too. Fish were not aggressive at all and rarely showed on the finder. Only caught 2 trout on live minnows. Even ling were almost non existent until the 2nd night. Last time I went out on Temagami in '12, I lost count on the amount of ling our group caught lol. Talking with other groups, it was a tough weekend for everyone (unless you count a hand full of fish a good weekend .

I would def recommend John.

So we arrived Friday early afternoon to the Ice Bungalows from Blue Haven Lodge.
Mackie was great, as were the huts.

We found the fishing to be very very tough, out of 12 guys fishing hard 6 got skunked and only 12 fish were to be had, a few lakers ( largest at 5.5 lbs ), a few small walleye and a few ling.

Bite was very slow and lite. We tried everything from aggressive jiging with all sorts of spoons and swin baits, dead stick with various sized minows as well as tip ups and spreaders - no luck at all.

We moved around as much as we could with snow shoes, slush was bad where it was present.

We knew another group of guys that were set-up to run and gun some of the surrounding lakes with sleds and they did quite well.

Not a good first impression of the lake, hopefully others did better than us.

Thanks for sharing,

Yah, fishing was slow for us as well last week at BH.
With that said, Mackie runs a great operation.

Did you catch those laker and Walleye in the huts? or move around?

I think we ended up with 4-5 whitefish between 4 guys
2 worth keeping the others were less than a pound.
No Trout, a few small ling.

We also fished very hard. A tough lake for sure.

I'd like to see them re-introduce a WF or LT re-stocking program. I think that would help the numbers out IMO.

The numbers are still there. We catch atleast 1-2 lake trout a day downrigging in the summer time in the afternoon. Not to many days do we not catch any, mostly good eater sizes no monsters. I usually hit the back bays for pike and bass in thr afternoon, but the oldman loves to fish lake trout in the afternoon and he does very well. The lake is massive. Fish are there, just need to find them. Stocking definetly wouldnt be a bad thing though, but i think the population is still good and strong imo

Lakers in the hut, walleye both in the huts and about 500 yards away from huts near a shoal.

Thanks for the report guys. Heading up Thursday Morning to Tamar. Hope the fishing improves. However we are taking sleds so should be able to move around a bit. May improve our chances if we don't get stuck. We were really hoping for serious Ling. Sounds like the population has dropped a bit since we were there last. Last time it was a game to find a lure you couldn't catch them on.
