I have been on the lake all my life. My mother was born and raised in Lindsay and I surprised my parents while they were up at the cottage and was born in the 'Ross'. I have raised my son on the lake and I hope, given him the same respect for it that I have. To say I'm attached to the lake is an understatement. When I was a child, like most other families, we had a raft to swim from located next to the channel. You would have to be out of your mind to try that today. The weeds growing there are so thick, you can't even get a motor boat through let alone swim safely. Over the past several years, (30-40), the lake has slowly but surely been killed by the proliferation of water weeds and wild rice. I am at the Lindsay end of the lake which has been almost choked off by wild rice. This "weed" in not native to the lake. Some idiot planted it. Rumor has it that it was the ministry to combat run off from the dump. Other say it was bass fishermen. (I can't believe that one) What ever the cause, it needs to be removed before it takes over the whole lake. It can now be found in every corner of the lake. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, contact anyone in the federal government that you can that might be of help. This is a federal waterway and their responsibility. The Kawartha Conservation Authority would have use believe that this is a natural progression of the lakes life. Hogwash. There is nothing natural at all about what is happening there now. Please help before it's too late. Thanks

the weeds and wild rice sucks for boating and swiming but its great for the waterfowl hunting:) if you really want the weed growth to slow down tell all the owners of lake front properties to stop ferting there lawns. the run off is whats causing all the growth.............

I'm at a trailer park on Pigeon just south of the narrows and it gets pretty thick here too. Only saving grace is that it stays away from the beach area where there is sand. We get guys harvesting it in air boats but it is not keeping up with the spreading.

I'm on the lake as well (North end of the lake) and although I'm new to the area, I didn't actually know this was an issue. Our waterfront is great with few weeds and the fishing is good.
I'm keen to help and I'll bring it up at my street's next association meeting. We communicate regularly with the ministry.
