My Bro' and I are booked for our first cold weather attempt at Nipissing walleye and/or pike along the south shore later this week, and apparently just under the wire for the season. We've been pretty regular over at the West Arm in spring thru fall, with the only ice being occasional frosty seats before sunrise in some historic cedar strip boats.

Thanks for all the posts on ice fishin' - I intend to read cover to cover, and any additional thoughts/advice would be welcome. We're relatively new to the hard water, but no strangers to the taste of fresh caught/fried Nipissing filets....

Cheers, and hopefully will file a report afterwards.

Fishing is good but not quite as hot as a month ago...the hour prior to dark has been best...6pm until sunset...ice is ridiculously thick

Well, back from Nipissing, and glad we went. Great couple of nights with Bear Creek. Good professional outfit, and they took care of us well. The housekeeping hut over 27 feet of water (plus 3 feet of ice) was a perfect solution for a quick trip.

Fishing was about as good as you can get for our full day on the lake. We both limited out on walleye, with a dozen or so good size perch as well to keep thinks interesting, so we were well fed (thanks to my bro's excellent frypan skills).

We mixed up the presentations but had roughly equal success with my bro's rig: Swedish Pimple with minnow versus my rig: 1/4 oz sinker, 18" fluoro leader and medium red eagle claw hook with minnow.

Overall a very well spent couple of days. Thanks for the forum. It was helpful...
Cheers

Thanks for the updated report, glad to hear Shawn and Terra were able to get you guys onto some decent fishing. Nothing better than a nice fish fry right outta the ice.
