Replacing auger blades

You are not the first guy. A friend of mine an auger really cheap off Kijiji. Tried to use it----wouldn't cut butter, switched blades---viola!!

Thx Ralph. I did the 'old credit card trick' and it seemed to work fairly well. I might fiddle with it a bit more to see if it can cut better

Don't sweat it...It happens to all of us, I put my chainsaw blade on backwards and didn't bring the wrench to change it around. Had to use an axe. That only happened once...

Last Xmas I bought a Woods E Drill. The first hole I tried to drill one of the blades broke. They sent me new blades & the auger worked well for the rest of the season. Took the auger out for the first time this morning & both blades broke on the first hole. All 3 blades broke right through the bolt hole that is tapped. I am going to call Wood's in the morning to see if they will send more blades. I think the blades are cheap Chinese junk that can' t take the extreme cold. I had my Eskimo gas auger for over 25 years & never changed the blades. Cheers

I bought those blades from Basspro thinking they were genuine Mora on sale but they were knockoffs made in China. I have read that the steel is much softer so they won't stay sharp very long. I'm a bit disappointed that BP would sell such low quality blades.


BTW---mine were not on upside down. I guess the angle was too shallow to cut very well. It was a struggle getting thru 6-8" of ice.

Best steel in order of hardness as in tool steel.

#1 German
#2 Sweden
#3 American

After that there is no real tool steel in my humble opinion.

And yes Knuguy China steel is very soft.

blades are unique to the auger, just cant use any blade you find cheap....Did you buy the proper replacement blades for your auger ?
