Taking a trip to Rice Lake in May, where on the lake would I find Perch to catch?
I wouldn't bother with perch in Rice, Walleye season opens May 10th. I have found most perch are very small and some/most full of worms ( only my preseption from fishing it alot last year )

But of course I'll appreciate any friendly tips from anyone on here!!! And yes I'll be there for the holiday weekend and I'll post pics when I get back with what we caught!!!

In May it's still chilly so you can have luck just about anywhere for walleye, I usually start around Bewdley trolling and work my way around the islands if all else fails find the rail tracks that are under water (try to pick up a map) that spot never lets me down.. any orange and green worm harness will work or a green jighead with a worm don't anchor just drift than circle back and drift.. hope this helps!!

And anywhere you find walleye the perch aren't far but like posted earlier they aren't very big and do tend to have worms.. lots of musky and walleye keep the perch sizes down lol

Hey Jiggin thanks for the tips much appreciated!!! And yes this helps a lot. I fished for walleye before at Lake Nipissing for about 22 years and at Lake Erie of course. But this year instead of going up north to Nipissing I decided to try something new and where I haven't fished. Been hearing Rice Lake is making a comeback of sorts in walleye, so I said what the hell I'll give it a try. I'm excited about the new adventure on a new lake I haven't fished and I really do like all the feed back from not only you but everybody on here.

I have caught some jumbos out of Rice Lake...
Nice fatties 11-13", I kept a few from last year for a fry and was disappointed to find they had a few worms (mainly yellow grubs). Anyway cut out the grubs and they were fine. Not infested by any means but still a pain. Crappies and Bluegills are better panfish if you are looking for eats out of Rice and of course the walleye. Good luck & have fun. Great lake...

There is a good episode of Dave Mercer ripping buck tails in the spring on Rice lake, if you can find it on the youtube it was a good episode and it's a good way to find the walleye if you don't like trolling. Good luck!
