This evening after work - went to a farm to scout out turkey.
This took an hour - then got in car and less then 10 minutes arrived at my usual shore fishing spot on Rice Lake.
Water a little lower (not much) since Sunday. Still very high!
Lots of people fishing both sides - a couple people at the gap - canoe with two also fishing the gap.
No one catching fish - I tried a few places - nothing but lots of weed - wind had changed.
Dusk brought small shower. 10 minute later - major rain and the wind switched fast and was strong. Stood under the shelter - only 3 of us now fishing - the canoe came in.
As the rain started to let up - I tossed the line out a few times - the wind had cleared the weed!
Thinking about heading home - SLAM. Just at shore - about to lift the jig out -got hit by a large walleye - or so I thought. Five minutes later with the help of the others - I land a 40" musky! My biggest musky yet - and first on Rice Lake!
One of the guys shore fishing helped out with his net! One of the guys from canoe took picture and sent. Much appreciated - had to adjust it a bit to compensate for the darkness.
And if anyone is thinking of asking - yes trigger-x grub! 3 of my four muskies I've caught have with the trigger-x. I think that I've lost a few - as they swallow the entire jig and teeth cut the line. I'm not targeting musky - but it is good to accidentally catch and release. Great that others helped - can be a challenge to handle musky by oneself.
Next time out - I will have to remember my net!
thanks
