Went to my 'usual' spot for shore fishing Rice Lake this time of year - usually I'm in waders at the 'gap'.
This year with the high water - the gap was somewhat 'choked' with floating weed beds - and some of the west shore - so stayed on the dock.
Using my 'go to' bait - I soon land a crappie 11". Then a 3lb OOS bass!
A father/son team (from couple hours away) were fishing beside me - they had forgotten their tackle and stopped at a store for 'something'. Whatever they were using wasn't working - so I set the young guy up with some trigger-x grub and Lindy x-change head - identical to my set up.
5 minutes later - the young guy shouts out that he had a fish. I looked over - and thought he had locked onto bottom. Not.
He quickly convinces us that it is a fish - and soon lands a 20.5" walleye - he had some pictures taken - and then a video of it being released!
I caught another crappie (right at dock) and then 2 walleye - 16.5" and 19".
From what I could see - and those I spoke to (leaving the gap) - only 1 crappie landed - and one walleye that got away at maybe 7 / 8 lbs.
LOTS and LOTS of people on the shore. Very few boats out fishing the area.
Great to get back into the soft water! Boating next week!
