Had a great weekend on Balsam lake Started Saturday night with a nice Walleye just over the slot.. NICE...
Sunday morning started slow.. A few HUGE O.O.S. Smallies then over to an area furthest away from home base. We usually don't make it that far down the bay however this time we wanted to try it.. Hit a popular spot for pike which was starting to see some pressure from the fisherman trying to find calm from the wind.. cast away for pike we come across a boat with three gentlemen in it. we chat and they say that around the corner they had a lot o chasers but no strikes... GAME ON! if they are there,,, we'll make 'em bite... over we go, fighting the shallow water (1.5-2 feet) having to raise the motor and trust "Minny" to coast us around through the wind....
Suddenly WHAM! this baby hits my wife's Mepp's 3 black and silver with red buck tail.... Fought it for ten minutes and we landed it with our hands as we forgot the net on the dock.
17Lb 39" O.O.S. Muskie!!! Nice fish!!! quick picture and back in the water to dance another day. Can't wait till it's my turn to wrestle the gator we've affectionately named "Lizbeth" as we almost had to "choot'em" to get it in the boat

Great report fishwacker, we were there on Monday and caught one little beaten up tiger. Felt sorry for the poor buggar looked like it was tortured, but still very hungry and still swimming. My first time on Balsam.

Thanx everyone..
It certainly was an exciting time, and certainly a beautiful fish.
I will have to thank the success partially to members of this board as we've learned a lot from following the different forums.

On that note.. quick tip for Sofabed... all our fish were caught in 15 to 20 F.O.W. with the exception of "Lizbeth" Orange or Gold bellies seem to be turning their cranks too... Good Luck.. Maybe I'll see ya up there this weekend...

Depending on the winds, there is always a calm shoreline to fish.. and theres are lots of spots at each shoreline, Balsam gets rough, but doesn't swell, stick closer to shore and you'll be fine...
