The countdown is on for the opener. Given the water temps and late thaw, any predictions on where the walleye will be?? Forecast looks sunny so hopefully that will get the fish moving! My gut is saying emerging weeds will hold both walleye and pike, especially when sun is shining. Rock humps and points should also hold fish. Other thoughts? Picture is from the 2013 opener - caught a number of 25+ fish.

Still a lot of ice, some is 12" thick. Some areas the walleye will be completed their spawn but the shoal spawners still maybe spawning. The mouth of the French the females have just started and the goose island is still all ice, which is good to keep people off. Just a side note, NFN has extended their moratorium until May 16.

Thanks for the update. Thanks to the NFN. What a great decision.
On the south shore, most of the ice is gone or going quick.
Be careful for floating debris.

In the North West bay the ice has been completely off for almost 3 weeks now and the water is warning up. Pretty much the entire bay should be full of life this weekend.

Good luck to all out there, stay warm and be safe.
