Hi all,

Was up on Sturgeon this weekend, and went into Bobcaygeon for some Kawartha Lakes Ice Cream (Love it!). Stopped by the dam and I couldn't believe the scene. There were honestly 50-70 people fishing from shore or right on top of the dam. With all the cold weather, some of the walleye are later than normal and a few walleye were still at the dam. These late walleye didn't stand a chance will all the lures and minnows in the water. During the hour I was watching I would say a dozen walleye were caught and many in the slot.

I haven't fished "shoulder to shoulder" since I lived Vancouver so I was surprised to see this in the Kawarthas. Anyone out there ever had success at the dam?

On the lake itself, walleye were pretty good. Managed a couple walleye each evening but all under the slot.

Ryan

I fished the Vedder river a lot every year. I love that river. The fishing can be absolutely extraordinary when the salmon are running. In a single stretch of river you can have all 5 pacific salmon species during a season. The bonus, is that the hatchery on that river stocks "Harrison strain" chinook that are absolute monsters that you need to chase down the river so you don't break off.

Also fished the Fraser from time to time but it was a little harder to fish from shore.

There are almost always people fishing that dam. We have tried a few times without any luck. I have been told it is a good spot to fish.

I also fished the Vedder and Fraser for salmon and some trout. Used fly fishing gear. Also up the Fraser and fished by the Harrison. Did sturgeon/salmon trips there. Sister in law lives in Abbottsford and that was my start point. Also used to fish by the bridge in the park for pinks from shore. I also own a fish camp by the yukon border and have my guide licence for BC.

Used to go every year for a couple of weeks but now once every couple of years.

Talk about real good fishing

Sounds like you're due for a trip back Bob.

Is your operation on a river or lake? The furthest north I've fished is Bella Coola / Ocean Falls in the salt.
