Is there anyone on this board fishing in the Canada/Us walleye tournament in bobcaygeon this weekend? Anyone going to just check it out? I might make a trip down to check things out.

I fished it last year but I won't be signing up again. The tournament puts a lot of pressure on Sturgeon Lake and every year there are reports of walleye dying after they are released back.
Granted it's good for the local economy, but walleye just aren't as hardy as bass in a live release environment.

Wildmar.
I agree with you. These lakes are not big enough and do not have the biomass to support the ongoing pressure of these type of tournaments. This year ,especially, has been very hard on the walleye.
I hope at some point the MNR realizes the negative impact.

WOW...I can't believe this nonsense still goes on up there, how many massacres of walleye will it take before they ban these idiotic tournaments. After alot of lean years the population of Walleye starts to rebound and the dumby's start up slaughter tournaments once again. WTF, you just can't win I guess, at the very least they should follow the AIM tournament format, catch/measure/photo/release, . This is just crazy, tournament anglers should at the very least smarten up and boycott this crap.

I fished this tournament for the first time this year.
It is actually unbelievable how well the volunteers run this event, and how much time and effort they put in to make it such a fun and memorable time. There was an incident a few year back about fishing dying, and the appropriate measures were taken in terms of punishment. Granted, there is a lot of fishing pressure, but that is generally the case when tournaments are held on smaller lakes.
The organizers and volunteers genuinely bust their a33es to ensure the proper handling for the fish. Until you provide real evidence that a large number of fish are dying due to this tournament, please don't make uneducated assumptions.
BTW, just for a second think of how many fish were live released that weekend, opposed to the fish that are taken out of the lake permanently by people every weekend...
