hey guys ,looking for a little bit of advice or thoughts on trolling reels ....wife and i have just started getting into trolling .....mostly shallow ,jet divers and bottom bouncers, but i have a small portable downrigger as well ....i am right handed....cast with right and wind with left ....at least on my spinning outfits....wife is a lefty....casts with left and winds with right ....looking at some small size 15 or 20 linecounter reels and wondering what we should be using ....lefts or rights....seems to be more right handed reels available ....any recommendations

Recent discussion on this about spinning and line counter reels.

I would try Okuma entry level to begin with.

I have the cheap diawa LC17 for my pickerel trolling reel. Combined with 30lb powerpro you can follow the precision trolling dive curves very accurately. I have been very pleased with mine and it was only $70. I also have a few sealine 27's and convector 30's for salmon and they work well! I am a left have retrieve guy, but all my line counters are RH. It doesn't bother me as I am not casting and retrieving all day!

love the Diawa LC reels. have 17, 27, and 47 and use them all for rigging, dipsy rods and inline planers with no problems. Buddy of mine is a lefty, so he just flips the pole upside down.

Sounds like you need RH reels, they are the most common, I would recommend Okuma Magda Pro's 20's. sounds like it is all you will need. The rod may be a little more critical. Dipsey rods are different than DR rods. Yes they can be used for both but for optimal performance try to purchase application specific rods.

thanks guys, some good advice .....i have been leaning towards the Okuma reels but i`ll take a look at the diawa LC too.....would love a good combo rod and reel, but most have either too long a rod or too big a reel for my purposes ...will have to check out TCO....the size 20 Okumas looked like they would fit the bill for what i do .....right handers looks like the answer as well ....thanks again everybody
