Less then three months to go. Are the new regs going to effect the number of anglers this year? Is anyone changing plans because of the new regs? I for one am keeping tradition and am looking forward to getting out on the mighty Nip !! Our group is coming early in hopes of making a return trip later in the frozen season for round 2 !! Im out on the West Coast (BC) Salmon fishing as much as I can, but I keep telling everyone about ice fishing on the NIp !!! Totally different and totally necessary for any fisherman to try !!
Anyone else getting pumped up about the upcoming season????

It's a tradition now, this will be 22 years in a row for me this winter. As for the new regs it is what it is, those that go away on these weekends know it's not all about the fishing.........good times with good friends.

Super excited for Jan 1st! I think the reg change will reduce the number of local anglers on nip but i would assume the operators should be fine. It's about the experience. A few fish caught is a bonus! And last year the fishing was great the entire season. Many of those 16 inchers should now be over 18. My plan is to keep a few 19 inch fish but still release the big mamas, if I should get doubly to hook into one. I will see if Fishchaser is up to the challenge this year

Anyone hearing rumours about the walleye fishery being closed for this upcoming ice fishing season? I imagine that is the next logical step if the data still shows the population is in trouble.
My only hope would be they announce it one way or the other soon and not wait until mid-December.

Well we went up for our annual fall walleye trip at the West Arm and fished our brains out for 2 days in the pouring rain and wind and although we caught fish nothing was over the new slot size - there were very few other boats out there and everything we saw them catch was also too small.
We've been going there for 45 years now and the MNR has basically ruined this lake - I doubt I'll be back....
For many years the MNR told us to keep the little ones and throw the spawners back - but now it's keep the spawners and throw the little ones back - how stupid is that......
It's impossible to regulate a lake that allows unlimited commercial fishing.......

little ones swim thru the nets, netters want the spawners to sell, now that they are fished out the regs get changed. want to bet they are changed again once the smaller fish get to the current legal size?

I've booked at greening bay cottages this year from the 9-11th of Jan with the buddies and I'm booked with Steve at south river resort from the 2-4th of Jan with the kids. We should get into something good this year! We do well every year and good times are had by all.
