Genetically Engineered Salmon

Read an interesting article on another fishing site about the above.

It involves adding a Chinook gene to Atlantic Salmon so that they grow to market size in half the time.

Interesting read and results. Maybe they should also add largemouth bass DNA so they can withstand higher water temperatures. The era of the frankenstein fish has begun... LOL.

Just kidding.. Lots of genetically engineered foods now a days, they have been adding fish genes to tomatoes for years to make them resistant to frost. I believe the fish gene is some type of cold water flounder (winter flounder).

Personally not a fan of humans messing with nature, introducing new species into ecosystems and generally ****ing up the balance of nature ... but that seems to be what we're best at. I understand these will be farmed fish, but nature has a way of not being held captive ... who knows what could happen once genes are altered.
