I got a tweet response today from @MNRcentral to my question of when to expect the 2015 Fishing Regs. Their answer: 'they will be posted online within the next couple of weeks'.

The next couple of weeks puts us just a few days before the opening of the season. Anyone recall cutting it that close?

I believe last spring they changed the regs after they were published and as a result COs would not fine folks who were fishing with a paper copy of the printed regs. This year if they publish on December 28th for example, can they really come down on a guy fishing January 1st under the assumption that the 2014 regs remain the same?

I don't understand how the start of a fishing season can sneak up on someone so fast they are literally publishing regulations a few days before the opener.

I'm pretty sure he regulations on walleye have changed. The way I understand it to be is the previous slot of 40-60cm has been abandoned and is now:

Walleye s-2, none less than 46 cm (18.1 in.) and c - 1, none less than 46 cm (18.1 in.).

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm hearing the same as you glfpro but I have not seen it in black and white yet.

To be safe check with your operator when you get up there, they should know what is right.

Hi guys. This new slot was implemented before the May opener. Possession limit of 2 over 18.1 inches. That also means only 2 per day regardless if eaten. This is for regular license. Conservation license is 1 I believe. Be prepared as the mnr was out on opening day in spring when new slot was implemented. And rightfully so in my opinion. My 2 cents is to reel up slowly when you know you have a small walleye to try not to harm given swim bladder coming up. I worry about many dead walleye below slot trying to be returned to nip

The regulations are available online. The information is out there, be sure you know 100% what they are before you step on the ice as the CO's will not care if they aren't in print yet.

Sorry my friend, what you link to expires at the end of 2014. The 2015 regs are not yet on line. Hopefully they will be soon for those unable to pick up a hard copy. Limited numbers of hard copies are available now many places where licenses are sold.

those are the new regulations as of May 2014. They will not change. That would be too much work for the government employees to handle. They were caught off guard when told they had to have the 2015 book ready by January 1st.

Cranman is correct everyone. For Lake Nipissing "Possession limit of 2 over 18.1 inches or 46cm only. That also means only 2 per day regardless if eaten. This is for Sport license. Conservation license is 1."

Also correct with the MNR not showing any leniency, especially since this was changed for the May long weekend of 2014 (and they did not show mercy then either)

Once again just to be absolutely clear. You can keep a Walleye only if it is a minimum of 18.1 inces or 46 cm. Nothing under that ever, but anything over that regardless of size is fine.

This is actually easier as there is now only one magical line to worry about.

I hope that clears it up. Good Luck and Good Fishing

Yup, can't be much more straightforward than that
