Last I heard it was real slushy ontop and don't know how much ice underneath... I'll be in the area on the 1st, I might wander over and drill some holes, I'll let you know what I find.

No worries . There are pike ,pickerel,ling.whitefish.some herring ,catfish ,perch, bass, sunfish in the system . There has been a rumour of a couple of crappie caught too but nothing I can personally verify . Just don't run the narrows between Big Doe and Middle Doe ever and use the portage instead .

Thanks for the safety tips! I think we are planning on fishing just big doe anyways. Did a little fishing there this summer and had pretty good luck, excited to see what the ice brings!

I have a cottage on the south end of big doe. There are much better lakes to fish through the ice in the area. I was up yesterday and found 4-6" of mostly white ice. Not a stitch of snow. Drowned minnows for about 6 hrs and only 1 dinky pike to show for it. We have been on the lake for 11 years now and try at least once a year to ice fish and only a couple times have we had good days. The last couple Of years we've fished bear lake and Bartlett lake and done much better. This all said, me and the boys will be up there from Thursday to Saturday this week to do a little fishing and a lot of beer drinking. If you do end up there and see 3 drunks, screaming down their holes, come say hi. Lol. And like trap said... STAY AWAY FROM THE NARROWS!!! even in the coldest winters this area never freezes solid.

On bear I park at my buddies cottage. Public not so sure. On doe you can park at boat launch on little doe. There is another road off stisted you can park on but I can't remember the name of it.
