You mean deep water (100 to 130 feet) for laker and whitefish on Simcoe? I'd think we need a minimum of another 2 (or more like 3) weeks before ice is ready, though I could be completely off here;-)

We should be out in deep water in kemp in a couple weeks. By the end of January permanent huts will be out. Cannot wait! Until then it's cooch and cooks bay maybe next week or the week after.

It looks very tempting to go out there.I think it would be very foolhardy right now. I think a few more weeks of cold weather will do it, but I'm sure somebody will try it early.

ya agreed...im hearing for perch and pike grounds this coming weekend...rule of thumb an 1inch of ice when its minus day and night meaning 6-7inches by the weekend..as for lakers..ive never tried for them BUT i did ask several outfitters a figurative safe open date and being told feb 1st IF the cold stays

Does anyone have a report from Kbay? Is there any coverage of ice yet? Any pictures? Ive been watching the City of Barrie webcams and its hard to tell if its still open water in the bay or ice.
