Im at Windermere right now. 2 feet of snow cover, slush at the entrance and not a soul in sight. Looks like a few came here before me and turned around. Looks like footsteps show they didn't even go 10 feet in and I'll be doing the same and won't be going out there to check the ice. Want to stay dry so I can fish elsewhere lol Sorry boys but no ice report.

Went out to a bay off Brackenrig Rd this morning and met another group who had ventured out maybe 50 yards checking the ice/slush. They told me there was two to three inches of ice then a layer of slush/water and another two inches of ice. One of the guys was wet up to his knee after going through the top layer of ice.
We decided to head to Windermere House to check ice as well but didn't step on the ice. My bar was going through with every hit while standing on the dock. Did see some footprints walking out as mentioned above but they didn't go far.
So ended up at a smaller lake that I know has been safe for a while. I fished just off shore for a couple hours. There is waist deep snow and no trails along with about 6 inches of slush. There is a good 6 inches of ice there still.
Didn't catch anything but still had some fun despite all the snow and blizzard conditions. Everyone stay safe out there! Its right on the verge on becoming safe but I'm going to give it a bit longer before I get onto any bigger lakes.

The snow was a PITA! The small lakw I was on had the thin cover of ice as well and went in knee deep at one point lol. Rosseau should be good next weekend for sure.

I am sitting here in Guelph reading these posts and its a roller coaster ride of emotions!!! Haha. I have 3 to 4 hr drive to get up to the cottage. Another 3 hrs of prep. And the ice might not be safe.
How many people think the ice will be ok for Jan 16 to 18 on rosseau.
Is the snow really a big concern of temperatures are in the low negative teens?

The snow in the Rosseau area is deep, and its still coming down. Sadly even with the cooler temps, the snow is insulating the ice and slowing down the development of new ice. I spent the whole day today shovelling my roof and driveway (8 hrs, seriously). A lot of the lakes in the area also have a layer of slush, which makes travel and set up a bit more challenging. I'm not going to say don't bother driving up, but I would hate for you to drive all that way and be disappointed. Your call. Some of the smaller lakes in the area have a bit more ice, you might consider one of those to satisfy your urge (safer, less on ice travel).

Nomadic has hit the nail on the head ....this snow has really slowed the ice making machine ....In Windermere we have had well over 44 inches of snow in just over a week and still coming down ..damn squalls.... it has really made roof shovelling and snow removal a number one priority right now ......hopefully with the constant negative temps next weekend may be a go ...but remember if you chose to head out on any of our lakes up here to chip and go as the snow cover has really effected the ice consistency.

Hey guys..I'm just signing in as fishmuskoka board seems to have disappeared. I went over to lake of bays today and things are not good. thud, thud, plunk. More steps....thud, plunk. More steps....plunk.....when the chisel goes through in one shot I go back to shore. Couldn't access any good water, but fished a bit, marked a couple but no takers...be careful out there.

So I whimped out and cancelled this coming weekend. sounds like the conditions arent there to warrant a 4 hr drive and have my buddies do the same for not ideal conditions. I am sure that being said now anyone who goes out will just slay the biggest fish they have ever caught.
tight lines all, see you in FEB!
A big thank you to all who wrote updates
Sudsmaster, DBFISH, pchrzan, and anyone else, many thanks
