I just use a piece of refletix insulation doubled for a pad not included in the pic. Also works good for kneeling pad

It is surprisingly comfortable…it swivels like an office chair on the ice too.

Maybe reinforce the backrest with fiberglass cloth and resin to prevent bending and collapsing.

You would be surprised how strong it is because of the curve. I'm 5'10" 185 lbs I can lean back my full weight with no signs of breaking the backrest. I have made 6 or 7 of these to get the right fit. This one is really strong and really comfortable.
