Headed out or another 4 hours today (1-5) and managed 15 walleye and 2 jumbo's. All walleye were under the slot, anyone have any tips for targeting larger walleye through the ice? Larger baits? Certain depths? Time of day?

Anyway, today we did better jigging than with the tip-ups, 12 caught in the hut, and 5 on the tip-ups. We were again in the 14-18 foot range, with the majority coming from the shallower holes.

White jig heads with shiners was again the key, with some more aggressive strikes today (they were chasing up through the water column unlike on the 6th)

Question:When an under slot size fish is foul hooked and you know it will not survive, what is the right thing to do, and by that I mean legal thing to do. Seems wasteful to have to send a fish back when you know it will not survive...

Been discussed more than a few times. As much as don't want to - have to release. Else (some) people would intentionally damage their catch to keep.

I don't think is total waste - becomes food for bigger fish - including walleye . . .

Good to know, and yea that makes sense, no way to know if it was accidental or intentional for regulation purposes.

And yes, thats a good way to look at it, feeding the trophy walleye!
